The John McCrossin Memorial Basketball Classic was created to  honor a wonderful husband, father, friend, coach, and educator who lost a valiant battle with mesothelioma. Our hope is that we not only remind you of the life of John McCrossin, but also bring attention to this disease.

 

For those who were not aware, mesothelioma is a very rare cancer with only 3,000 cases diagnosed every year.  Mesothelioma does not discriminate, though men are more likely to develop symptoms.  Over 80% of all mesothelioma patients are men and 95% of all cases are Caucasian men. 

 

The majority of mesothelioma patients are 65 years or older, because it takes 20 to 50 years for the disease to develop.
